Das Island

Our client
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has decided to extend the existing island Das by some 170 ha. Das Island, situated 110 km off the coast of Abu Dhabi, is an important hub for the export of oil and gas. A new airport and residential area will be built on the reclaimed land.

Our work
The design and construct contract exists of reclamation and shore protection works. Some 16 million m3 of sand will be reclaimed and compacted. The construction of a 7 km revetment is also included in the contract. Van Oord will deploy several trailing suction hopper dredgers.

Our results
The development of Das Island will give an important boost to the local oil and gas industry.
