Our client
The Docking Shoal metmast is located
approximately 17 km off the coast of Norfolk and the Race Bank metmast is
located approximately 31 km off the same coast of Norfolk (both outside the
Wash area) in the United Kingdom. Mammoet Van Oord was subcontractor to SLP
Energy, who received the contract from Centrica. The objective of the
meteorological masts is to collect meteo data at various heights up to a level
of 90 m height.
Our work
Mammoet Van
Oord has been responsible for the load-out, marine transport and installation
of two metmasts. Preparations started in Schiedam, the Netherlands, and all metmast
components were transported, loaded and seafastened on the jack-up platform
‘Jumping Jack' together with an IHC S-600 hydrohammer and other necessary
equipment.
Each
metmast consists of a monopile with a diameter of 1.40 m for Docking Shoal and
1.80 m for Race Bank respectively with a maximum length of 55 m and a weight of
115 tons. Secondly a platform, including preinstalled facilities, to be fitted
to the monopile. Finally a 75 m long lattice mast, lifted in two stages, and
bolted onto the platform.
Our results
The
installation operations of both metmasts were completed in time, without incidents/accidents,
to the total satisfaction of the client.
