Print project overview | Back to project selector

Our client
Essar Bulk Terminal is part of the Essar Group, which is a major player in Hazira, the industrial centre of Gujarat State in the northwest of India. The Essar Group is a self-supporting conglomerate (it does its own shipping and smelting and has its own terminal and power plant), producing more than 4.6 million tons of steel per year, with the goal of increasing its annual output to 9 million tons.

Our work
Dredging with side-casting and pumping in reclamation for forming the approach channel for the proposed deep water berth at Hazira. The project involved dredging all sections to at least 8 m below CD, with a minimum channel width of 230 m. This phase of the project was completed in just 6 months. Together, the cutter suction dredgers Castor and HAM 218 dredged a total of 8 million m³.

Our result
The production of the steel and bulk transport of steel pellets, coal, etc was previously done using a 2,000-ton barge combination. Since the inauguration of the Essar Deep Water Berth on 11 May 2010, vessels with a draft of 12 m have entered over the high waters. The first bulk carrier was berthed there on 29 September 2010.
