Our client
As part of the Danish government's energy action plan ‘Energy 21' the Horns Rev Offshore Wind Farm project was
awarded by Elsam Projects to MT Hojgaard, to who Mammoet Van Oord was
subcontractor. The project is located 20 nautical miles from Esbjerg, Denmark in North Sea waters of
around 15 m deep.
Our work
Mammoet Van Oord was responsible for the load-out, offshore transport and the installation of 80 foundations
and turbines. The monopile and transition sections were staged at the Taurus
Quay in the port of Esbjerg and transported to the project
site.
80
foundations were driven into the sea bed to a depth of over 30 m. The
foundation consists of monopiles with a diameter of 4 m, lengths up to 33 m and
a maximum weight of 160 tons.
The
transition sections were installed, complete with J-tubes, ladders, fenders,
including levelling of the transition sections, grouting of the annulus between
transition section and monopiles and placement of access platform.
Our results
The offshore wind
farm at Horns Rev was the first large project in the Danish government's energy
action plan ‘Energy 21' from 1997 for wind farms in offshore areas. The project
forms part of the achievement of Energy 21's environmental goals and
commissioning of the wind farms was completed at the end of year 2002.
