Our client
Located in water depths up to 600 m deep at a distance of approximately 125km north-west of the Shetland Islands, the Laggan Tormore Project is a strategic development by Total to open up the region West of Shetland for future development. Offshore pipe laying company Allseas carries out the installation of two 18" pipelines to a terminal in Sullom Voe where the gas will be processed for onward transport via a 30" pipeline to the existing FUKA gas network that connects Scotland and Norway.
Our work
Our contract consists of the Orka Voe and Firth Voe projects, named after two inlets in the north of the Shetland Islands. The Orka Voe project involves the pulling the two 18" pipelines to shore through an excavated trench, the installation of two plastic (HPE) pipes weighed with concrete elements and backfilling of the trench. The works are executed by various types of equipment such as a backhoe dredger, a split hopper barge, a 600T linear winch and a side stone dumping vessel. Flexible Fallpipe Vessel Nordnes was used to install rock on the installed pipelines.
Our results
With the completion of the first project at Orka Voe, Van Oord has proven to be able to effectively manage and execute projects in remote locations, with the aid of specialised modern vessels and equipment that are part of their versatile fleet.
