Oil unload facility in the Black Sea on Midia Marine Terminal

Our client
The Black sea has more and more an oil intensive industry which requires good facilities for loading and unloading the crude tankers.

In March 2008 Van Oord Offshore signed a contract with client Rompetrol for the installation of an oil unloading system in the Black Sea in Romania. This contract has a value of EUR 56 million. The project started early May and was completed end of 2008.

Our work
This is an EPIC contract (Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning) for the Midia Marine Terminal in Romania. The project entails the installation of an SPM (Single Point Mooring) system in the Black Sea. The SPM will be used for oil unloading by crude tankers of a maximum of 160,000 DWT and will be connected to an onshore refinery via an 8,700 m pipeline.

Van Oord will be responsible for the project management and all onshore and offshore installation activities. The complete SPM system will be supplied by Bluewater Energy Services from the Netherlands.

Van Oord will mobilise one pull winch and two trailing suction hopper dredgers for the trench dredging works.

Our result
Van Oord proved to be a reliable EPIC contractor, able to manage all aspects of a full EPIC SPM & pipeline installation contract.
