Maintenance Dredging of Mumbai Port keeps the port accessable
Our client
Mumbai Port is in operation since 1873 and is one of the oldest Ports in India. To maintain the depths, Mumbai Port Trust needs to dredge the port approaches, channels and alongside the berths on annual basis.
And ever since the year 1996, when the Port decided to execute the annual maintenance dredging by engaging reputed dredging firms, Van Oord has remained as the first choice of the port.
Our work
The Maintenance dredging works during the years 2006-2008 involved removal of 4.19 million m³ of Marine Clay and silt from the Approach Channels, Turning Circles and berth areas.
The working areas varied greatly with depths from -2.0m CD to -11.5m CD. The busy traffic, High Tidal variations and specific time windows make this maintenance dredging a challenge on its own.
Our results
Mumbai Port Trust assigning this dredging works to Van Oord almost continuously for more than ten years now, speaks of the clients confidence and dependability on Van Oord.
