Our client
The Scroby Sands Offshore Wind Farm is
located 2.5 km off the coast near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Mammoet Van Oord was
subcontractor to Vestas-Celtic, who received the contract from Powergen Renewables
Offshore Wind Limited.
Our work
Mammoet
Van Oord has been responsible for the load-out, offshore transport and the
installation of 30 foundations, including fender structures. The installation
of 3 export power cables between the wind farm and the shore and the
installation of scour protection were executed by Van Oord.
The
foundations consisted of monopiles with a diameter of 4.2 m up to 49 m long
with weights up to 210 tons. The monopiles were fitted with a fender
arrangement 15 m of length and weight up to 38 tons and topped with an access
platform.
The
export cable installation comprised three sections of each 3.8 km connecting
the wind farm to shore, and were buried to 3 m depth. Upon completion of wind
turbine installation the scour hole formed around the turbine foundation was
filled with 900 m3 crushed rock.
Our results
This project was the
first in this kind to receive Government approval. The wind farm consists of 30
wind turbines, each capable of producing a maximum expected power output of 2 Mw,
providing power for 41,000 households, preventing emission of 75,000 tons of
greenhouse gases annually
