A new business resort in Nigeria: Tinapa lake
Our Client
On the banks of Calabar River in Nigeria, an exciting new resort was being envisaged. Tinapa Resort would combine business and leisure with the aim of boosting local and regional tourism. The resort would feature a one-of-a-kind design, with hotels, shopping and entertainment centers complementing an artificial lake for recreational use by tourists.
Our work
Van Oord realized the artificial lake, 'Lake Tinapa'. The work was executed in two phases: the dredging of an access channel from the Calabar River and the dredging of the lake itself. Cutter suction dredger Calabar River removed some 885,000 m³ of soil, which was efficiently reused to create new land for future leisure development.
Our results
Although Van Oord has successfully carried out numerous dredging projects in the Calabar region, this project was one of a kind, leaving behind a beautiful lake 300,000m² in size. Undoubtedly many tourists will spend their quality time on the water having the best times of their lives. All thanks to the dredgers of Van Oord.
