The themes People, Planet and Profit form the inspiration for our core values.People
Our enterpreneurial maritime spirit Van Oord is an international enterprise whose origins lie in the history of the Low Countries and their struggle against water. A passion for the business, an enterprising spirit, and the ambition to do the impossible: these are what drive our people and result in dazzling marine engineering projects, for example the Dutch storm surge barriers, Hong Kong's offshore airport, and Dubai's artificial islands. Our people have chosen a lifestyle that enables them to achieve their ambitions. And we have chosen our people.
Our sponsorship policy Van Oord sponsors a number of charities, activities at our locations, and educational institutions.
Our safety We make sure that the men and women employed by Van Oord can do their jobs effectively and safely. By emphasising safe working practices and providing ongoing training for our employees, we create safe working conditions for our people.
Planet
The environment - our concern We pursue an active environmental policy when it comes to waste products, not only on projects but also at our yards and on our vessels. We separate our waste where possible before submitting it to processing facilities. We consider the possibility of recycling material when submitting tenders.
We increasingly make efforts to predict, measure, manage and prevent negative environmental effects in the projects we execute in the marine environment. For example, we have invested in software that can predict and restrict the turbidity caused by dredging. Our aim is offer our clients and suppliers environmentally friendly alternatives.
Our future We invest in training our operational personnel and collaborate with third parties in research programmes. We are one of the initiators of 'Building with Nature', a programme that explores the interaction between maritime infrastructure and ecology.
We make ongoing efforts to offer our clients and engineering firms environmentally responsible alternatives in the project design and preparation phase, as we demonstrated when tendering for the Maasvlakte 2 port expansion project, in which various environmental factors play an important role.
We take part in environmental discussions, such as those conducted within the IADC, PIANC Envicom, CEDA, EuDA and VBKO. Our aim is to contribute to the future of Dutch marine engineering and to emphasise the Netherlands' position as a global leader in this field.
Profit
The long-term continuity of the company is of vital importance to us. That continuity depends on our generating a healthy profit. A healthy profit margin enables us to pay dividends and wages that are in line with the market. It also gives us an opportunity to grow, specifically through our long-term, EUR 1 billion investment programme. |
