Van Oord has taken on the job of dredging the harbour of Suape, Brazil. The contract value amounts to some EUR 35 million. The client is Suape Complexo Industrial Portuario Governador Eraldo Gueiros, port operator and public institution of the state of Pernambuco. Execution of the project will start mid December 2009 and will take six months to complete.

The project involves dredging of the access to the shipyard Atlantico Sul in the harbour of Suape. Van Oord will dredge six million cubic metres, two million cubic metres of which will be reclaimed. The other four million cubic metres will be discharged at sea. Van Oord will deploy cutter suction dredger Hercules and trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 309 sailing under Brazilian flag.

This new project enhances Van Oord's position in South America. This is Van Oord's second award in Brazil within two months. The company has been active in Brazil since 1985. In October Van Oord took on the job of deepening the harbour of Rio de Janeiro with a contract value of EUR 45 million.
