The position

Finance & Control

The Finance & Control department consists of the following sub-departments: Accounting, Reporting, Controlling and Tax.  Further, the department includes the MI-7 programme office. MI-7 is the finance transformation programme which involves various improvement initiatives around People, Processes, Systems and Performance. It is a multiyear programme that will both fix the fundamentals while – at the same time – moving forwards towards a professional, lean, future-proof and agile finance organisation.

Concern Reporting

Within Finance & Control the Concern Reporting team is responsible for the Planning & Control cycle, mainly focussing on management reporting of the Van Oord group towards the Board of Management, Audit Committee and Supervisory Board as well as the (external) financial reporting and filings. The reporting comprises the consolidation of around 150 group companies that form part of the three business-units of Van Oord and its supporting departments. The financial reporting is based on NL-GAAP. The team supports the businesses in pre-qualifications and by providing specific (audited) financial reports and information. Also maintenance of the reporting system, including the new CPM (corporate performance management) tool, as well as functional support is handled by the team. The team works closely together with the other sub-departments in Finance & Control, the teams in the business units and of other departments.

Your responsibilities

As a Financial Controller you, together with the other team members of Concern Reporting, will drive the Planning & Control cycle, perform the consolidation of the business-units and entity financial reports, ensure data quality and consistency as well as compliance to NL-GAAP. Based on these financials, reports for management reporting and (consolidated) financial statements are prepared for group companies. Furthermore reviews and (ad-hoc) analyses are performed.

As part of the Finance Transformation a new CPM (corporate performance management) tool for consolidation, (project) reporting, budgeting, planning and financial analysis is being implemented. As Financial Controller you will support this implementation and become a ‘heavy-user’ going forward which will allow you to provide colleagues in the field with functional support.

You will be based at our office in Rotterdam.

 Responsibilities

  • Consolidate management and financial reports (incl. IC eliminations, adjustment entries, reviews, performance of checks and balances), for actuals, forecasts and plans
  • Prepare management reports, presentations and (ad-hoc) analyses
  • Prepare (consolidated) financial statements in line with NL-GAAP
  • Support implementation of the new CPM system and provide functional support to end-users
  • Involvement in interim and year-end financial audits
  • Determine and implement improvement steps as part of Finance Transformation
  • Update reporting requirements in the Accounting Manual and provide support thereon

Job requirements

  • Strong initiative and a self-starter, being able to identify opportunities to drive value
  • Accurate, analytical and ability to drive processes to completion
  • Effective team player with strong communicative skills
  • Knowledge of accounting standards, NL-GAAP and preferably IFRS
  • Experience in financial consolidation in an international group and with project accounting
  • Experience with (implementation of) CPM systems
  • University degree in business administration / economics, preferably with a CA / RA / RC degree
  • Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in an international business environment in audit, finance and/or controlling
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, verbal as well as written
