Do you combine IT skills with knowledge of geo-information and do you have a preference for Open Source software? If so, being a GIS developer at Van Oord is the job for you. From deep under the water to high up in the air, our projects are often unique and are without exception brimming with technical, financial and organizational challenges. Would you like to make sure our new GIS team and the rest of the organization have the best systems at their disposal? Then apply for the job of GIS developer at Van Oord!
From wind farms, harbours and dykes to deepwater shipping channels, if we are to do our job properly we need up-to-date and accurate geo-information. We consider that so important that we are setting up a specific GIS team within our Survey Department. As a developer within this team, you provide the foundations beneath our services. Thanks to you, the GIS systems work perfectly and everyone within Van Oord has an expert technical point of contact for questions about this subject. From a plug-in for Qgis to contacts with outside vendors, you take responsibility for streamlining development and service provision. Thanks to your systems, our tender specialists and project managers always have efficient and adequate access to up-to-date spatial information. As such, you have a crucial role in developing the GIS team and the use of GIS within Van Oord, all in an international environment. Which is why you will sometimes be working abroad. This is an essential role that will call on your knowledge and ingenuity worldwide.
You are an independent thinker with a broad knowledge of GIS-related systems and of technology such as MS Azure Cloud and Docker. You are inquisitive and always looking for new or more efficient ways to gather and provide access to information. You have no problem travelling every now and then to visit our projects abroad. In addition, you bring the following to the table:
• a qualification at higher vocational (HBO) level at least and knowledge of GIS software such as Qgis, Geoserver, GeoMapCache and PostGres/PostGis;
• around 5 years experience in the field;
• excellent command of English and preferably also of German.
Together with your colleagues in the new team at our offices in Rotterdam and Gorinchem, you will be given plenty of room to give GIS a full place within Van Oord, in the Netherlands and far beyond. We work with state-of-the-art software in a friendly, open atmosphere and we are always ready to help each other. Alongside an attractive package, you will be given plenty of opportunity (and a training budget) to develop professionally and personally, internationally too, so that you can continue to grow within your role.
