The position

As a Risk Manager Projects you will work together with our tender- and project teams on a wide variety of marine engineering projects across the globe. One of these projects is the 385-megawatt offshore wind farm Arkona in Germany, which will be fully operational in 2019 when it starts supplying sustainable energy to 400,000 households. Van Oord was responsible for the transport and installation of the 60 monopiles and transition pieces.

In projects like the Arkona offshore wind farm you will provide the tender- and project team risk management support to achieve predictable execution and delivery. You collaborate with other project control professionals who are focused on planning, systems engineering and estimating and cost control. We encourage you to think and act over the boundaries of the individual disciplines, connecting the technical and project control functions and bring a competitive edge to Van Oord. Primarily you will work at our Gorinchem and Rotterdam offices and in addition you could be flying across the globe several times a year to complete tenders or discuss progress on site.

Your responsibilities

As a first point of contact for tender- and project teams you will draw up tender/project specific risk approaches / strategies. During different project phases you will constantly keep a close eye on potential risks and opportunities all the while developing the risk maturity of the team. Furthermore, you:

  • Gather information for the risk register / analysis;
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis (deterministic & probabilistic);
  • Analyse and assess risks, propose risk mitigation plans;
  • Report on status risk processes and bottlenecks;
  • Educate and coach tender/project team in risk approach;
  • Quality control on work of peers.

Job requirements

You have strong personal leadership and well developed sensitivity for dealing with people with different perspectives. You are objective and independent and really listen to the needs of teams and individuals. Clear communication and strong analytical skills are essential for this position. Furthermore, you have:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in project risk management;
  • experience in tenders and projects, preferably in an EPC- / multidisciplinairy environment;
  • a BSc degree in engineering, (technical) business administration or supply chain management;
  • excellent command of the English language, spoken and written.
