Van Oord strengthens position in Spain

Maincontractor UTE Dique Torres has awarded the reclamation contract for the extension of the port of Gijón to Van Oord via its Spanish subsidiary Dravosa. Client is the Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón. Completion of the project is scheduled in 2010. The total contract value amounts to approximately EUR 65 million; the Dravosa share accounts for 60%.

The port expansion includes a land reclamation for a new transshipment facility for gas and bulk goods. Medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers will reclaim approximately 20 million m3 of sand. Execution of phase 1 of  the project will start in June and is scheduled for completion in September. Phase 2 starts in April 2010 and is scheduled for completion in September 2010.

Through its 50% share in Dravosa Van Oord holds a strong position on the Spanish market for infrastructural projects. To meet the growing demand for goods Van Oord regularly executes port expansions and large scale port maintenance. For the tourist infrastructure in Spain beach replenishments are executed.
